The Story Behind Our Personal Sushi Chefs
Chef Don and Chef Young L. share a friendship that spans nearly 30 years, forged through their passion for Japanese cuisine while working in some of the most prestigious sushi restaurants in West LA, Santa Monica, and Beverly Hills. Their journey began in the late ‘90s when they met as young apprentices at a small, family-owned sushi bar in Los Angeles. Over decades, they perfected their craft, earning head chef positions and building a reputation for culinary excellence.
Despite their success in high-end restaurants, Don and Young L. often dreamed of creating a more personal, interactive sushi experience. They wanted to share their love for making sushi directly with guests, where every piece would be crafted with care and served with warmth. In 2021, they turned that dream into reality by launching their personal sushi chef service, bringing authentic Omakase experiences to private events across Los Angeles and Orange County.
Their journey wasn’t without challenges. Early on, they catered small gatherings, sometimes prepping sushi in home kitchens and even outdoor patios. But the joy they saw on guests’ faces made every effort worthwhile. As word spread about their unmatched sushi creations and friendly, personable service, their business flourished. Today, they continue crafting unforgettable dining experiences, driven by the same passion that brought them together nearly three decades ago.
